American History - Mr. Glover's Class

This is THE site you'll want to stay in touch with all year long.  I'll post updates about what's going on in class, reminders about tests and homework, as well as make special announcements in the block to the left on this page.  You'll always know what's going on and what to do if you check this page regularly.  In addition, I'll be publishing the work we are doing, so if you miss something in class, you'll be able to find it here.

  • Parent Volunteers Needed!!!

Parents: We'll be taking the class on a field trip to the Museum of History on September 24th. A national travelling exhibit of one of the last remaining copies of the Declaration of Independence will be on display. There will also be speakers and activities exclusively available to our class on that day. We need 15 parents (minimum) to volunteer to chaperone our class on this day. All the details you need will come from me. But we are looking for people that can stay with us the whole day, from 7:30am until we return to school at 2:00pm. Students have already raised the money needed for this to take place. Now, we just need your help in bringing it all together. Please contact me if you have any questions/concerns.

  • Speaker Tonight!

At Rand Hall on the campus of the University starting at 7pm will be Stuart Sanders. He is an expert on Civil War battles in Kentucky and has published 3 books on the topic. (After the Fire: The Aftermath of Perryville, Maney's Brigade's Last Stand, AND, Going Gently into that Good Night.) He will be speaking not only about some of the Civil War battles, the strategies, winners and losers, he is one of the foremost experts on how the war affected the lives of ordinary people living in the communities where the battles occurred. Schools and Colleges taken over by armies for hospitals or armories. Churches turned into shelters for those who lost their homes during the battle. Farmer's fields destroyed by the fighting. Not to mention all the death and disease and the (by our standards) poor quality of medical care available at the time. There will be a short reception following the talk. Starts at 7pm in Maney Auditorium and the reception will be in Brooks Hall starting at 8:30pm. Hope to see you there.
